Excusive Interview with Singer Princess Wonda

Princess Wonda aka “The Princess of Afro-Fusion” is a multifaceted independent charting artist whose musical journey began in London at her church choir.

How did music start for you?

When it comes to how I started, yea, I actually started in a gospel avenue. You know when you are young, a teenager your parents want you to go to church, etc so I just found what I enjoyed doing there and I was really fortunate that a lot of the people in the choir were already people working in the music industry.

I was in my late teens at this point and it was in London. It was quite rigorous that’s why now, the idea of hard work isn’t striking to me. It built me up in a way for what I am doing now.

Do you still use your talent for the lord in the house of the lord?

Why not? If there invite me, why not? Being a chorister is a part of me that will never go away because the moment I start in the spirit, we will turn this place into an alter, it’s that serious.

It wasn’t like a phase in my life, it’s still a part of me but in terms of my passion, the things I want to say, music has evolved for me in a lot of different ways. You never know, one day a gospel album can happen. Never say never.

How did they handle it? Switching from church to City Boys

To be honest, it’s interesting because honestly, with the church thing, I phased out a little bit and I was doing back-up vocal singing, singing in weddings, and different stuff. I was more like a performing artist.

City Boy, it’s actually funny the way it came about, I think it was like 2019, it was at Afronation and it’s the stories I have been hearing that inspired that song.

My friend’s friend sending me DMs, telling me things that happened to them, all the wahala they went through, coming back with no money, being played 419 by guys.

I don’t want to expose people but all I will say is, City Boy, I wanted to do like a playful song, I didn’t want it to come across like something that is man-bashing, I don’t subscribe to that. I just wanted to be funny and relatable.
