I rejected N5m from PDP to upturn Osun guber poll : INEC official

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Segun Agbaje has warned politicians to stop casting aspersion on the integrity of the country’s election umpire so as not to jeopardize Nigeria’s nascent democracy.
Agbaje spoke at a forum with Civil Society Organisations in Abuja on the Commission’s preparedness for the forthcoming Ondo state governorship election.

Three weeks to the Governorship election in the state, allegations and counter allegations of bribery from the two leading political parties against the Commission have not ceased.

The country’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress and the ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party, have made various accusations bordering on corruption against INEC’s hierarchy.

But the man at the centre of it all says he remains unshaken in the midst of all accusations, insisting he is incorruptible.

To demonstrate his aversion to corruption, Agbaje said he rejected a five hundred million naira offer by the PDP to upturn the last Osun state governorship election.

With its level of preparations put at eighty per cent, the Commission says it is ready to conduct the gubernatorial election in the state but appeals to all principal actors to play by the rules.
