Snoop Dogg has been announced as one of the torchbearers for the Olympic flame leading up to the 2024 Paris Games. He will carry the torch through the suburb of Saint-Denis, marking the final stretch before it reaches the iconic Eiffel Tower ahead of the opening ceremony on Friday, July 27, 2024. Snoop Dogg expressed his enthusiasm on social media, stating, “U gots to do it!!”
The 16-time Grammy nominee, who hails from Long Beach, California, is making this appearance as Los Angeles prepares to host the 2028 Olympic. In addition to his role as a torchbearer, Snoop Dogg is also expected to contribute to NBC’s coverage of the event.
The Olympic torch was ignited using sunlight focused through a parabolic mirror on April 16 in Olympia, Greece, and made its way to France, arriving in Marseilles on May 8. French swimmer Florent Manaudou was the first to carry the torch upon its arrival in France.
Olympic Touch
The torch relay, which spans 68 days, has included stops at various historical sites, museums, and concerts. As the relay nears its conclusion, the identity of the individual who will light the Olympic cauldron during the opening ceremony remains a mystery. Potential candidates for this honor include three-time gold medalist Marie-Jose Perec, actor Omar Sy, soccer legend Zinedine Zidane, astronaut Thomas Pesquet, and survivors of the November 13, 2015, terrorist attacks in Paris.
