Google has officially announced the Pixel 9 Pro Fold in a teaser video, showcasing its new foldable smartphone. Dubbed the “foldable phone built for the Gemini era,” the promotional material highlights the device’s integration with Google’s generative AI chatbot. Similar to the standard Pixel 9 Pro, the foldable version features a noticeable camera bump, with its lenses arranged vertically on one side, ensuring that the bump does not dominate the entire width of the folded phone.
Although Google has not yet provided a formal launch for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, previous leaks from Android Authority have revealed significant details about the entire Pixel 9 lineup. The National Communications Commission (NCC) in Taiwan has shared images of the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9 Pro XL, and 9 Pro Fold, including a glimpse of the unfolded 9 Pro Fold. This design choice moves the selfie camera to the interior screen for a broader field of view and features a reduced crease on the display, measuring just under 10 inches.
The NCC’s leak also indicated that the new devices will require larger chargers, as their charging rates are generally faster than previous models, although the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is noted to be the slowest among them. More details will be confirmed during the upcoming Made by Google event scheduled for August 13, where the new smartphones will be officially unveiled.
