Celine Dion‘s performance at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics has significantly increased her music streams on Spotify, according to the platform’s CEO, Daniel Ek.

Before this performance, Dion had not taken the stage in nearly four years due to pandemic-related disruptions and her ongoing battle with stiff person syndrome. Expressing her joy about performing in Paris, she wrote on X, “I’m honored to have performed tonight for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes and their incredible stories of sacrifice and determination.”

Ek’s announcement about Dion’s streaming boost was part of a broader discussion on the rise of French music on Spotify following the opening ceremony’s musical performances. Notably, her rendition of “L’Hymne à l’Amour,” originally by Édith Piaf, experienced a remarkable 320% increase in streams the day after the ceremony.

The opening ceremony attracted a substantial audience, with 28.6 million viewers on NBC and Peacock, and an additional 666,000 on Telemundo Deportes, marking a 60% increase compared to the opening festivities of the previous Summer Games in Tokyo.
