RB Leipzig has successfully retained the services of sought-after striker Benjamin Sesko (21), extending his contract until 2029, the club announced on Wednesday. Sesko’s impressive debut season at the Bundesliga side attracted attention from Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United.
Having joined Leipzig from sister club Red Bull Salzburg last summer, the Slovenian forward showcased his talent by scoring 14 goals in 31 Bundesliga appearances, including a remarkable streak of goals in his last seven league matches.
Expressing his satisfaction with the contract extension, the towering 1.95-meter striker described it as “a logical step,” emphasizing his contentment with the team, club, city, and fans. Sesko’s decision to stay is a significant boost for Leipzig, who are also keen on retaining Paris Saint-Germain loanee Xavi Simons for the upcoming season.
RB Leipzig’s sporting director, Rouven Schroeder, hailed Sesko as one of the Bundesliga’s top strikers, highlighting the extension as a strong indication of the club’s ambition.
As part of the Red Bull football group, RB Leipzig has emerged as a breeding ground for top football talents, with several players departing for prominent clubs. Despite their relatively short history, Leipzig has made significant strides in German football, winning the German Cup in 2022 and 2023 and consistently challenging the league’s traditional powerhouses.
Sesko’s commitment to Leipzig comes ahead of his participation in Slovenia’s Euro 2024 squad, where he aims to continue his impressive goal-scoring record for his national team.
