CAF has addressed recent speculation surrounding the timing of AFCON 2025. Contrary to rumors, the tournament’s schedule remains unaffected, as confirmed in an official statement released by CAF. Reports suggesting a delay in AFCON 2025 were dismissed by CAF, labeling them as baseless.
Previously, there were discussions regarding a potential clash between AFCON 2025 and the revamped FIFA Club World Cup, set to run from June 15 to July 13, 2025, in the United States. Veron Mosengo-Omba, Secretary General of the African football body, acknowledged this issue, highlighting concerns about player welfare given the congested schedule.
Despite the evolving landscape of international football, including the expansion of the FIFA Club World Cup to accommodate 32 teams, featuring four African representatives, namely Al-Ahly, Wydad Casablanca, Esperance Tunis, and Mamelodi Sundowns, specific dates for AFCON 2025 are yet to be finalized. Lux September, spokesperson for CAF, emphasized ongoing deliberations regarding the tournament’s timing in light of recent developments.
Reports on AFCON 2025 are untrue.
The CAF Executive Committee will meet, deliberate and make a decision on the AFCON 2025 dates.
