Apple has released significant updates to Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8. The iPad version leverages the capabilities of the new iPad Pro with the M4 chip, enabling up to 2x faster rendering and supporting up to 4x more streams of ProRes RAW compared to the M1.
The key feature of Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 is the new “Live Multicam” capability, which allows users to wirelessly connect and preview up to four cameras simultaneously. This feature is powered by the new Final Cut Camera app, which also functions as a standalone recording app on iPhone and iPad. Users can adjust settings like manual focus, shutter speed, ISO, focus peaking, grid overlays, and more using the app.
Another significant feature of Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 is external project support, which enables users to create new projects or open existing ones without occupying internal storage space.
For Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8, users will gain access to new AI features, including “Enhance Light and Color,” which automatically adjusts video for color correction, and “Smooth Slo-Mo,” which blends video frames for enhanced movement. The update also includes organizational tools, such as custom names for color corrections and video effects in the inspector, and a text-based timeline search.
Both Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 are available as free updates for existing users. For new users, Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 is available for $4.99 per month or $49 per year, while Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 is available on the Mac App Store for $299.99.
