Twitter is Now X.com: The Official Domain Change

The social network formerly known as Twitter has officially rebranded to X.com for all its core systems. Typing twitter.com in your browser now redirects to Elon Musk’s preferred domain, though results may vary based on browser choice and login status.

A message on the X login page states, “We are letting you know that we are changing our URL, but your privacy and data protection settings remain the same.”

Transition to X.com

The transition to X.com has been a notable part of Elon Musk’s rebranding efforts. Although many aspects of the platform, including its official account, mobile apps, and “X Premium” subscriptions, have long adopted the new branding, the URLs remained as twitter.com until recently.

The change began as early as August last year when some users noticed x.com links appearing from the share sheet inside X’s iOS app. The gradual switch has raised concerns about phishing attacks, as noted by security expert Brian Krebs last month.

Musk’s Vision for X.com

Elon Musk’s connection to the x.com URL dates back to 1999 when he launched a business under the same name, which later merged with PayPal. For this iteration, Musk envisions X.com as an “everything app” similar to WeChat.

One thing is certain: it’s no longer Twitter.
