Manchester City’s seasoned goalkeeper, Ederson, will be absent from the closing match of the Premier League season and the upcoming FA Cup final, the club confirmed on Thursday.
Ederson sustained a facial injury during City’s recent 2-0 triumph over Tottenham, forcing an early exit from the game after a collision with Cristian Romero. Scans revealed a minor fracture to his right eye socket, sidelining him for both the crucial league encounter against West Ham and the FA Cup showdown with Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.
“Manchester City can confirm that Ederson will miss the final two games of the season due to a small fracture of his eye socket,” the club stated in an official announcement.
With City holding a slim two-point lead over Arsenal, victory against West Ham at the Etihad Stadium will secure them the Premier League title.
Despite attempting to continue playing after receiving treatment during the Tottenham clash, Ederson was substituted by manager Pep Guardiola in the 69th minute. His replacement, Stefan Ortega, stepped in and delivered a crucial save to preserve City’s lead, contributing to their eventual victory.
Ortega, who has previously substituted for Ederson in four league matches this season, now stands to play a pivotal role as City seeks to clinch another Premier League and FA Cup double.
