Google has introduced a new feature in Chrome that simplifies multitasking with minimized in-app tabs. This update aims to address the disruption caused when opening links from within another mobile app, allowing users to stay focused on their current task.
For instance, when a link is opened within Gmail and a Chrome tab is launched within the app, users can tap on the chevron icon in the toolbar next to the “x” or close button to minimize the browser. This action transforms the open tab into a compact, floating picture-in-picture window that can be moved anywhere on the screen.
Users can keep the tab minimized while using the original app and restore it to its original size by simply tapping the floating window when ready to view its contents. This new feature is already available for Android within Gmail and will soon be accessible to users whose default browser is Chrome and keep it updated.
The feature is enabled by default, eliminating the need for users to manually activate it. Additionally, users can always transfer an in-app tab to the Chrome browser if managing different tasks in separate windows enhances their productivity.
