According to reports, Barcelona has signed a contract with Hansi Flick to be their coach for the next two years. The official announcement was expected to be made on Wednesday, as confirmed by Vice-President Rafa Yuste earlier this week.
However, the announcement has been delayed because Barcelona wants to ensure that they have definitively ended their association with Xavi Hernandez before making any announcements. It was reported that Xavi would waive the €11-12m owed to him for the final year of his deal, but would reclaim the €2.5m he had paid out of his own pocket to sign for the club from Al-Sadd. His staff would also receive their fees in their redundancy package.
The deal with Flick has not been finalized yet, and Barcelona will wait until it is before making the announcement. The appointment of Flick is seen as a make-or-break decision for Laporta, with those close to him acknowledging that if it goes poorly, Laporta may be forced out of the club in the 2026 election. On the other hand, if it goes well, Laporta will consider running for a fourth term. Meanwhile, Sporting Director Deco’s future is also uncertain, as a poor performance this summer could result in him leaving the club.

Laporta is facing significant criticism, even more so than when he was forced out of the club in 2010. His reversal on Xavi’s future has led to mockery of Barcelona, and fans are expressing their dissatisfaction with the lack of leadership. However, a successful start for Flick could potentially overshadow these concerns.
