Apple News+ has unveiled two exciting new features for subscribers: the original spelling game ‘Quartiles’ and a convenient Offline Mode. Available with iOS 17.5 or later, these additions enhance the user experience by providing fresh and engaging content even when offline.
“We’re always working to improve the experience for our News+ subscribers,” said Lauren Kern, editor-in-chief of Apple News. “Our new daily word game Quartiles is a fun addition to our popular crossword offerings. And Offline Mode makes it easy to access the hundreds of magazines, newspapers, narrated articles, and more included in a News+ subscription — no matter where you are.”
Quartiles, the latest addition to the Puzzles collection, challenges players to form words from tiles containing two to four letters, earning points based on word length. New puzzles are available daily, and players can share puzzles with other News+ subscribers.
Alongside Quartiles, the Puzzles collection for News+ subscribers includes daily crosswords and mini crosswords, launched with iOS 17. A new Puzzles Scoreboard allows subscribers to track their personalized stats, solve rates, and streaks.
The new Offline Mode automatically downloads Top Stories, Apple News Today audio briefings, full magazine issues, narrated articles, and puzzles, ensuring subscribers have access to content without needing Wi-Fi or cellular connections. Once the device reconnects, content updates automatically, optimizing download space.
These features are part of Apple’s ongoing efforts to enhance the Apple News+ subscription, making it more versatile and enjoyable for users on the go.
