Mercedes-Benz has officially introduced its electric G-Class luxury off-roader, known as the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology. This electric version retains the iconic design of its gas-powered counterpart, including its sharp angles, distinctive door handles, grilles, and round headlights. The G 580 is equipped with a 116 kWh lithium-ion battery, providing a range of up to 473 kilometers (294 miles) on a single charge, with a maximum output of 432 kW and maximum torque of 1,164 Nm.
The vehicle is powered by four electric motors located near each wheel, offering various off-road modes such as G-TURN for turning the vehicle almost on the spot, G-STEERING to eliminate multi-point turns, and an intelligent off-road crawl function for cruise control on rough terrain.
A legendary car deserves nothing less than an epic reveal at a dedicated event show in Beijing´s Art District 798.

The battery is protected by a torsion-resistant casing to shield it from water and dirt, ensuring the vehicle can handle off-road conditions, including driving through up to 33.5 inches of water. The G 580 can charge using both alternating current and direct current; when using fast-charging DC, it can charge from 10% to 80% in just 32 minutes.
The G-Class can convert kinetic energy into electrical energy during coasting or braking. The initial release of the G-Class with EQ Technology later this year, dubbed EDITION ONE, will include an expanded array of standard features. In the coming years, a range-extended version featuring more energy-dense silicon-anode technology from Mercedes’ partner Silas will also become available.
