Tiwa Savage’s Debut Film ‘Water and Garri’ to Premiere Globally on Prime Video in 2024

Tiwa Savage, the renowned singer/songwriter, is set to make her debut in the film industry with “Water and Garri,” a Nigerian movie that will exclusively premiere on Prime Video worldwide in 2024, spanning over 240 countries and territories.

The narrative unfolds around Aisha (played by Savage), an ambitious fashion designer returning to her homeland after a decade in the U.S. due to a family tragedy. Upon her return, she encounters a transformed environment characterized by heightened violence and tension. Reconnecting with family, old friends, and a past love, Aisha must confront her scars and the guilt she left behind. Filmed in Cape Coast, Ghana, the feature boasts compelling cinematography and storytelling, featuring a cast including Mike Afolarin, Andrew Bunting, and Jemima Osunde.

Ayanna Lonian, Prime Video’s Director of Content Acquisition, expressed enthusiasm for the film, stating, “Water and Garri delivers well-crafted, contemporary African stories with a fresh perspective, meeting the demand of audiences worldwide.” She commended director Meji Alabi and lead Tiwa Savage, along with the talented cast and crew, for delivering a stellar debut.

Tiwa Savage, thrilled to see her film go from concept to a global Prime Video release, shared her excitement about revealing a vulnerable side of herself. She praised Meji Alabi for bringing the story to life beautifully and eagerly anticipated sharing it with the world.

Producer Jimi Adesanya, also an executive at Unbound Studios, expressed delight at collaborating with Prime Video, recognizing the film as a cultural milestone celebrating the intersection of film and music from Africa.

“Water and Garri” is a collaborative effort between Everything Savage, Unbound Studios, and JM Films. Directed and edited by Meji Alabi, produced by Jimi Adesanya, and written by Comfort Emmanuel, the film features music by Tiwa Savage. Executive producers include Savage, Vannessa Amadi-Ogbonna, Adesanya, and Alabi.
