Rabbit’s R1, a compact AI device designed to handle your apps, has not only sold out its initial 10,000-unit production run in a single day but also exhausted its second batch within two days.
In an update shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Rabbit expressed excitement about surpassing their initial expectations. The startup mentioned, “When we started building r1, we said internally that we’d be happy if we sold 500 devices on launch day. In 24 hours, we already beat that by 20x!” The first set of preorders is set to begin shipping in March.

Although a second batch of 10,000 units was made available for preorders, it, too, sold out on Thursday. The company has now opened preorders for a third batch, with an anticipated delivery window in May to June 2024.
Unveiled during CES on Tuesday, the R1 features a 2.88-inch touchscreen running on Rabbit’s proprietary OS. It employs a “Large Action Model” acting as a versatile controller for various apps. As described by my colleague David Pierce, who experienced the device firsthand, the R1 streamlines tasks such as playing music, making purchases, and sending messages through a unified interface, eliminating the need for a phone. Additionally, users can train the device to interact with specific apps as per their preferences.
