In response to the uproar caused by the video showing accident victims being treated on the ground after a railway and BRT bus collision, the Lagos State Government has issued a statement.
According to a prior report from TVC News, the train collided with a bus operated by the Lagos State Government, killing six persons and wounding a number of others.
Victims of the railway and bus accidents were seen being treated on the ground outside the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in a video that quickly became popular.
The hurt individuals were transported to a general hospital for medical attention. It is well known that there are frequently not enough beds available at LASUTH, which has angered many online residents.
Responding, the Chief press secretary to the governor, Gbenga Akosile, in a statement said the victims were not treated on the floor.
Instead, the victims were undergoing a preliminary assessment in order to determine the urgency of their need for treatment and the nature of treatment required.
He added that triage is global standard practice in the hospital during an emergency of such magnitude.
The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to a video making the rounds about the treatment of the patients who were involved in the early morning accident at LASUTH.
“For the avoidance of doubt, no one is treated on the floor. What you see is called TRIAGE! It’s a global standard practice in the hospital during an emergency of this magnitude.
”A Triage is the preliminary assessment of patients or casualties in order to determine the urgency of their need for treatment and the nature of treatment required. Take note.”
