Rihanna co-wrote “Lift Me Up” with Nigerian singer Tems; music producer and Swedish composer Ludwig Goransson; and Black Panther’s director, Ryan Coogler.

The track was written as a tribute to the lead star of the first Black Panther film, Chadwick Boseman who played T’Challa.

Speaking about “Lift Me Up”, Tems said, “After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I have lost in my life.

“I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them.”

On working with Rihanna, Tems said, “Rihanna has been an amazing inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honour”.

If you would recall, when the first official trailer of the sequel was released in July, it featured Tems performing a cover of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry”.
