Nigeria’s finest artist, Tito Da. fire has been nominated and inducted by the world-renowned Recording Academy, owners of the prestigious Grammy Award as a voting member of the culturally rich and diverse class of select music connoisseurs for the class of 2022.
Just so you know, Titi Dynamite‘s first ever music video as a video vixen was Tito Da Fire’s “Majekaja video” in 2013. Tito is a veteran artist and has been in the music for a long time
What would you say about the music industry from then to now?
When we started as gentlemen then, we called our sound Afro RnB, afro highlife and I think that is exactly what has meta morphed into what we have today that is like the general afrobeat which is the mixture of afrobeat and pop afrobeat.
What going on with you and the Grammies?
I was inducted as a member of the 2022 class of the Recording Academy so I am one of those who ballots are sent to, to vote for who becomes nominees for next year’s Grammies that is coming up.
It is a big responsibility to make sure that whoever you choose to win, is a representative of the music and it speaks well of the profession too.
How did you feel when you got the mail from Grammy?
The exciting thing about it is that a lot of Grammy winners from different parts of the world started to write to me for us to keep in touch and up till now some random guys sent me the names of their nominees and I can only vote 14 categories.
How do you finally make up your own voting list?
We get updates that come every day that reminds us of our responsibility and to make sure that whoever you vote for, is based on our own assessment, we need to experience their music etc.
We are told not to vote based on region or friendship but to be very objective with our voting.
