Still on Nigerian music to the world, the American Music Awards have announced the nominees for the 2022 edition.
This year’s award sees the addition of new categories which includes, favorite rock song, favorite rock album, favorite Afrobeats artiste and favorite K-pop artiste.
Nigerian artistes, Wizkid, Burna Boy, CKay, Tems, and Fireboy DML are the first artistes to be nominated for the maiden Favorite Afrobeats Artiste category.
Tems on the other hand leads the Nigerian nominees list with four nominations, which is the favorite Afrobeats artiste of the year, collaboration of the year for Future’s ‘Wait For U’, favorite hip-hop song for ‘Wait For U’ again, and favorite R&B song for her collaboration with Wizkid on ‘Essence’, meaning Wizkid also grabs two nominations.
Puerto Rican rapper, Bad Bunny has the most nominations, with eight, in categories like artiste of the year, favorite touring artiste, favorite music video, favorite male pop artiste, and others.
He is followed by Beyonce, Drake, and Taylor Swift, all of whom have been nominated for six awards this year.
The 2022 American Music Awards will hold at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles on Sunday, November 20.
