A U. S. District Judge, Ann Donnelly has ordered embattled American singer, R. Kelly to pay over three hundred and nine thousand dollars in restitution to two victims who testified against him at his Brooklyn federal trial.
One of the victims who is being referred to as Jane Doe will receive three hundred thousand dollars from R. Kelly to cover the costs of therapy and herpes treatment, as she accused the singer of knowingly giving her herpes during her testimony.
Another victim referred to as Stephanie, who testified at the Brooklyn trial, will also receive over eight thousand dollars.
According to the Department of Justice, the amount will likely increase, as the money is for herpes treatment and psychological treatment. It’s however unclear how or when R. Kelly will be able to pay.
If you recall, prosecutors claim R. Kelly is broke, as reports state he has access to five million dollars, with about twenty-eight thousand dollars seized from his inmate commissary account.
His defence attorney Jennifer Bonjean said the money was made up of small donations from fans. Bonjean told U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly that the singer has no access to any other funds due to judgments in civil cases against him.
If you would recall, Judge Ann Donnelly sentenced R. Kelly in June to thirty years in prison, after a jury convicted him of racketeering and other charges.
Earlier this month, the singer was also convicted of several child pornography and sex abuse charges in his hometown of Chicago.
