Two officials were injured in a terrorist attack on President Muhammadu Buhari’s advance team convoy on Tuesday near Dutsinma, Katsina State.
Before the president’s Sallah holiday visit, the team was in route to Daura, Katsina State, the president’s hometown.
The security forces on the convoy resisted the attackers, according to a statement made on Tuesday night by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity).
According to the report, all other workers had reached Daura safely while the injured were being treated.
The statement read:
“The Presidency has described as sad and unwelcome, the shooting incident near Dutsinma, Katsina State, at the convoy of cars carrying the advance team of security guards, protocol and media officers ahead of the President, Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Daura for Sallah.
“The attackers opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.
“Two persons in the convoy are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they suffered. All the other personnel.”
Since then, the presidency has called the nefarious deed a sad and regrettable occurrence.
This is in light of the fact that yesterday, after a bloody gunfight, robbers attacked and killed Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP Aminu Umar Dayi, who was in command of the Dutsinma Area Command in Katsina.
