WATCH: 5 Things To Keep In Mind When Creating Habits

Do you know that we are what we do repeatedly?  Wouldn’t it be nice to have everything run on auto pilot?

I mean chores, exercise, eating healthy, getting work done, all of this and more just happening automatically?

Do you also know that with a small amount of initial discipline, you can actually create a new habit that requires little effort to maintain?

As usual we have put together some tips for creating new habits and hopefully they stick.

  1. START SMALL

Don’t make the biggest mistake of going big, start small with your good habits and focus on one habit at a time.

Things like businesses especially, do not try to start big, because from experience, starting big generally leads to failure simply because it’s not sustainable.

  1. THOSE WHO TRACK IT, HACK IT

You can objectively tell what you did in the past days, weeks, months and years when you track an activity, because if you don’t track, you will forget everything you did.

It’s just as little as writing expenses down, you will then sit at the end of the month for instance and be accountable to yourself.

  1. HABITS ARE NEVER FULLY AUTOMATED

Most of the habits don’t become automatic, they become a lifestyle, because for instance now, you will not automatically wakeup in the gym and wonder how you got there, it’s a decision you don’t ponder on or think about, you simply do it.

  1. PUNISH YOURSELF

You need to punish bad behaviour when changing habits, so let’s say you tell your brain that there are real consequences to missing your daily habits, try doubling the workout for instance the next day, buying a gift for your least liked person etc.

That way you have sort of punished yourself for the bad behaviours of yours, and you can in turn move on to changing that habit of yours positively.

  1. REWARD YOURSELF

When you follow and execute your plan, reward yourself, that’s how your brain knows that you have done something good indeed.

The reward makes your brain cells become green and in turn gives you an instant boost of endorphins.

Don’t go and be rewarding yourself too much though, it must be something special and hard to obtain.
