With 1,271 vote, former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu has been announced the winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary elections.
About 2,322 delegates from across the country had stormed Eagles Square, on Tuesday to elect the flagbearer of the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Tinubu was called upon to open the floor as the first presidential aspirant to give his speech. Tinubu’s supporters were seen and heard chanting ‘Jagaban’ in jubilation.
Tinubu garnered half of the total votes to beat his major opponents, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Tinubu, who is also the National Leader of the party, got 1,271 votes, his major opponents, Amaechi and Osinbajo secured 316 and 235 votes respectively.
The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan got 152 votes while the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, scored 47 votes.
With the result, Tinubu will face the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, The Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and other party candidates to battle for the top political office in the forthcoming 2023 elections.
