The House of Representatives has given the Inspector General of Police 24 hours to return all documents relating to the 2017 Appropriation Bill carted away from the residence of the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje, last Thursday.
The lower chamber has also summoned Ibrahim Idris over the matter.
The sponsor of the motion alleges the security operatives destroyed doors, bags, the ceiling and soak-aways and also went away with laptops containing the 2017 Appropriation Bill.
Others who spoke in support of the motion submitted that the manner security agents now invade the privacy of citizens without recourse to due process should be nipped in the bud.
In line with the prayers of the motion, the House called on the IGP to return all documents relating to the 2017 Appropriation Bill not later than Thursday to ease passage of the budget.
Ibrahim Idris is also to appear before an ad hoc committee to explain the rationale behind the police action.
Our National Assembly Correspondent, Sumner Sambo also reported that the Police Boss later rushed to meet with the Senate leadership on the issue of the hijacked budget.
On hearing about the ripples being generated by the seizure of the documents, Idris rushed to the National Assembly in an attempt to douse the tension but it seems that the federal lawmakers are set for a showdown.
The Police Chief on the other hand, refused to speak with journalists.
