Gov. Ishaku mourns late Taraba monarch Lamdo Gashaka

Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has commiserated with the people of Gashaka Council Area of the state over the death of Lamdo Gashaka , Alhaji Hammangabdo Sambo.
Sambo, 81 years, passed on at the National Hospital Abuja on Saturday night after a protracted illness. He was the longest reigning traditional monarch in the state after 50 years on the throne before he joined his ancestors.

Governor Ishaku in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Hassan Mijinyawa  described the death of the royal father as a great loss to the government and the entire people of the state.

According to the statement  “Sambo, was a courageous and sincere monarch whose wisdom and honest counselling would be missed greatly especially at this moment of our statehood”.

“ I call on the people of Gashaka to uphold the values that late Lamdo Gashaka stood by, especially his disposition towards peace and support for constituted authorities,” Ishaku said.

The late Hammangabdo was born in 1935 and became the Chief of Gashaka in 1965.

He is survived by about 70 children and several grandchildren.

Prominent among his children are Mustapha Hammangabdo and Hajiya Batulu Hammangabdo. Both served as commissioners under different administrations in Taraba.

Zubairu Hammangabdo, also a son, is currently serving as Special Adviser to Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba.

The First Class Chief served creditably as a member of the defunct Northern Nigeria House of Assembly.

He was elected Councillor of Gashaka-Mambilla Native Authority, among others, before his ascension to the coveted throne of Lamdo Gashaka in 1965.
