Jackie Chan becomes 1st Chinese to receive honorary Oscar Award

Jackie Chan is the first Chinese to be honoured with an honorary Oscar statuette for his lifetime contribution to film.

Chan, 62, will receive the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the Academy’s Governors Awards, which will hold on November 12, for ‘charming audiences with his dazzling athleticism, inventive stunt work and boundless charisma.’

In August, Chan, who made his movie debut at the age of eight but is yet to win an Oscar, was ranked as the second-highest paid actor in the world by Forbes with estimated 2016 earnings of $61 million.

‘I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to the Oscars for giving me this award of encouragement and recognising my achievements while I’m still ‘young’,’ he wrote. ‘I’m absolutely honoured to be the first Chinese in history to receive this award.’

Some of Chan’s popular movies include: Drunken Master, Kung Fu Panda, The Karate Kidand Rush Hour.
