We’ll no longer condone lawyers who frustrate anti-graft war – EFCC

TVC E. The Economic and Financial crimes commission EFCC will no longer condone lawyers who frustrate the fight against corruption through frivolous applications.

Chairman of the commision, Ibrahim Magu, made the assertion recently at a lecture organised by the National Association of Democratic Lawyers held in Lagos, with the theme, the role of Nigerian lawyers in the fight against corruption.

Political Correspondent Ayodele Ozugbakun reports that since the creation of the anti corruption commission in 2003,its has prosecuted several political exposed persons, while many of those cases still lingers in courts due to the delay experienced in prosecution, many others are allegedly frustrated by lawyers.

Challenged by this worrisome trend , the national association of democratic lawyers organised a lecture where stockholders examined the role of lawyers in the fight against corruption. the Efcc chairman mr ibrahim Magu lamented the negative role of some lawyers he termed” rogue elements” in frustrating the fight against corruption.

similarly , executive secretary, presidential advisory committee against corruption, Professor Bolaji owasanoye, said the biggest threat to the success of the administration of criminal justice tactics of reports that lawyers, rather than enforce the spirit of the law fully.
