TVC E. Bayelsa state government house yesterday, June 12 came under attack by unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
According to Leadership, there was panic in the vicinity as the gunmen exchanged heavy gunfire with security operatives attached to the government house.
The gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers were said to have made attempts to kidnap some Chinese nationals working on the proposed state government Castle Hotel lodged in the expatriate quarters of the government house.
The report further stated that the Chinese nationals who were six in number were woken up by the invasion of the gunmen some minutes before midnight.
The gunmen were said to have gained access to the government house through the waterways behind the complex to perpetuate the act.
A source in the government house who narrated what happened said: “One of the Chinese nationals was bold enough to tackle one of the kidnappers and disarm him. The Chinese national later opened fire and the sporadic gunshot attracted heavy security presence at the main entrance of the government house.”
Another source cooraborated the story saying: “The Chinese man attacked one of the kidnappers and collected his gun at the Castle Hotel in Government House, Yenagoa.”
Bayelsa state has been in the eye of the storm in recent times as the state is one of the hardest hit in the resurgence of militancy in the Niger Delta region. Recently, a 27-year old notorious criminal who happens to be a bank robbery suspect explained how Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state appointed him as a special adviser.
The hardened criminal named Ikadoi Isere is also known as ‘White Witch’. White Witch was apprehended by men of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT). He gave a stunning revelation during an interview, stating that the Bayelsa state governor appointed him as special adviser on oil and gas matters before he was arrested.
