Joseph Luka and Dominic Dabouer, both security men at Demex properties Nigeria ltd, on Tuesday appeared in a Gudu Upper Area Court in the Federal Capital Territory for allegedly sleeping during a robbery attack.
Luka, 25, and Dabouer, 30, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of negligent conduct contrary to Section 196 of the Penal Code.
Prosecutor Urom Otu told the court that Uju Asika of plot 206, Anyim Pius Anyim Street, Wuye, reported the matter at the Wuye Police Station on March 25.
Otu said unknown persons had invaded Asika’s compound, and stole her laptop, fabrics, jewellery, bedsheet, dresses and make-up bags all valued N1.7million from her flat.
He added that the two defendants, who were meant to secure the compound, were sleeping during the robbery incidence and that the complainant had to wake them up after the incidence.
The presiding officer, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N300,000 each. Kagarko said each of the surety’s must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and adjourned the case till June 2 for hearing.
