Egyptian MP resigns 48 hours after parliament’s first meeting

TVC NEWS : An Egyptian member of parliament resigned yesterday from parliament, describing it as “the worst parliament in the country’s history” and a “circus”.

Justifying his decision to resign, Kamal Ahmed told reporters that he “made the decision after the inaugural session experienced bad behaviour by some MPs who have turned the parliament into a circus.”

Noha Kamal, Ahmed’s daughter, wrote on Facebook that her father resigned from the House of Representatives 48 hours after the first session “because he saw that there is no hope”.

Politicians and journalists criticised the events which took place during the new parliament’s inaugural session held on Monday which included yelling, chaos and quarrels between parliamentary blocs during the election of the two deputy speakers and heads of committees.

Many said the start was not promising.
