Jigawa residents seek end to border town clashes

Residents of Maigatari Local Government Area of Jigawa State, Northwest Nigeria want an end to clashes between them and Dingas, a town located across the border with Niger Republic.

The residents are worried about the frequent violent clashes that have affected social and economic activities in the border communities.

TVC News Correspondent Ibrahim Isah who visited the troubled Nigerian and Nigerien border communities reports that at least 2 persons lost their lives, while 9 sustained various degrees of injury as a result of the latest fighting.

Men, Women, the Young and the Old in the rustic town ofJobi in Maigatari, Gumel Local Government area of Jigawa State, Northwest Nigeria are out in large numbers discussing issues affecting their lives.

They have God to thank as survivors of a recent bloody clash between their community and the people of Dingas, a Nigerien community.

Farmland is the major bone of contention between the two border communities. Residents of Jobi in Maigatari are similarly not happy about the negative consequences of the clashes.

Those injured were brought to the Jobi village square by residents.

While narrating their ordeal, they urged the Government to wade into the incessant clashes between them and their Niger Republic neighbours.

Governor Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State is also hopeful that the inter-border disputes that exist between Maigatari and Dingas will soon be history.

No fewer than 2 persons have died and 9 others injured as a result of the latest attack between Nigerien and Nigerian border communities in Jigawa State.

Residents of Dingas and Maigatari believe peace will soon be achieved. They also want seized farmlands returned to their rightful owners
