In a surprising move, England manager Gareth Southgate has announced the provisional squad for Euro 2024, featuring some unexpected inclusions and notable omissions. Forward Marcus Rashford and seasoned midfielder Jordan Henderson have both been left out of the 33-man roster.
Eberechi Eze, among other new faces, has made the cut. Liverpool’s Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton are among the uncapped players included in the squad.
Southgate will finalize the squad, reducing it to 26 players by the June 7th deadline.
Rashford, with 60 caps and 17 international goals, including three from the 2022 World Cup, has not been in top form this season, netting only seven Premier League goals for Manchester United. Despite his historical significance to the team, his current performance has influenced his exclusion.
Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling is another notable omission, whereas his teammate, Cole Palmer, has been included following an impressive season. Manchester United’s Luke Shaw is also part of the provisional squad despite a prolonged injury period.
