She says having a positive mindset helps too, referring to Yeni’s look at her age since she was the case study.

Furthermore, she said that you should pay attention to your Nutrition, and what you eat or drink.

“I am one of those people who believe that you should not cut anything out completely. Everything has to be done in moderation except smoking, sugar also should be cut out because it is the number one ageing food.

“Sugar promotes inflammation in the body, it encourages the release of Cortisol, which is a stress hormone. Anything that promotes stress hormones should be cut out.”

This saying raised some arguments among the ladies about how to cut out sugar because sugar is everywhere like the Natural in fruits, and Artificial like refined sugar.

According to Dr Olutoyin Ajala, you should cut out any additional sugar, stating that it’s the refined sugar we don’t need.

Going further, Mariam raised a question relating to how Yeni’s active lifestyle has also been of help to her ageing gracefully, and “what way she would advise someone who hasn’t had the active lifestyle YK has had and they find themselves in their 60’s, can they start now? And would it make an impact?”

Giving response to this question, Dr Olutoyin Ajala said “yes you can. Aging actually starts at 30, so from age 30, you have to start and be intentional.”

Talking about Dementia Dr. Olutoyin Ajala said “I came to Nigeria in 2018 to set up my Elderly Health care service and I believed at that time Dementia was a western problem. I did not think we had dementia in Nigeria until I came to provide that service to the elderly, I was shocked.”
