Actor and award-winning filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan is set to develop his hit movie ‘Anikulapo’ into a series.
In an Instagram live chat with members of the cast, Kunle Afolayan shared that the film was originally intended to be a series but the former was created as an audience test.
Kunle Remi, one of the leading casts of the movie had earlier announced the good news in an Instagram post, sharing snippets from the film set writing, “Even though Saro and Arolake’s case is still in court, my heart is full. PS: The journey just began; all unanswered questions are in the series to come as confirmed by the director.”
Set in the ancient Oyo Empire, Anikulapo, which translates as ‘death in the pouch’ centers on the story of Saro, a young ambitious cloth weaver who is brought back to life by a mystical bird after he was beaten to death for having an affair with Arolake, the Alaafin’s youngest wife.
The Netflix original starring Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale and an enviable list of veteran Yoruba-language film stars, debuted on October 1, to instant acclaim from critics and film lovers.
The film also maintained an impressive top ten spot in over five countries including the United Kingdom, Kenya, Nigeria and the Bahamas.
