US Court Postpones Hushpuppi sentencing to November 7

Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi on Instagram, a popular figure in Nigeria, has pleaded guilty to allegations of multi-million dollar fraud. The US Central District Court in California has postponed Ramon Abbas’ sentencing.

Hushpuppi was hauled into custody in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), in June 2020. He was then transported to the US, where he entered a guilty plea in July 2021.

Hushpuppi will be sentenced on November 7 according to a court notice that Premium Times was able to get from trial judge Otis Wright.

The court’s notification postponing the sentencing read, “COUNSEL ARE NOTIFIED, the Sentencing is CONTINUED to November 7, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. pertaining to Defendant Ramon Olorunwa Abbas.”

Judge Wright initially shifted the sentencing hearing from February 14 to July 11 before moving it to September 21 and now November 7.

In July 2021, Hushpuppi consented to enter a guilty plea to the multimillion-dollar fraud accusations that the American government had brought against him.

He has been imprisoned ever since his detention in Dubai and extradition to the US in June 2020.

In an astonishing turn of events, Mr. Abbas—who had up to that point maintained his innocence—entered into a plea agreement with US authorities in July 2021 in the hopes of securing a lighter sentence.

He admitted guilt to Count Two, “Conspiracy to Engage in Money Laundering,” according to the terms of his plea agreement with the US government, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison as well as severe punishments and full restitution.
