Why I Said Nigerians Should Be Allowed To Carry Guns – Kaduna Rep, Hon. Yakubu

Hon. Yakubu Barde, a member of the house of representatives, has urged the federal government to allow Nigerians “have guns like phones”.

Hon. Yakubu Umar Barde made this statement reacting to the attacks and incessant kidnapping in Kajuru local government of Kaduna State.

During an interview with the ladies of Your View, the lawmaker stated that his outburst was out of frustration and due to the demands of Nigerians in his constituency after being faced with consistent attacks by bandits.

He added that vigilantes in his constituency stated that if they were armed enough, some of the attacks by bandits would have been repelled.

Honorable Barde mentioned ways he has intervened in helping his community amid rising insecurity. He said he facilitated payment of ransom to bandits for his constituents to secure the release of their loved ones. “I have helped a lot of people to pay ransom, so I feel the pain” he said.

While reacting to the efforts of Sheik Gumi in ensuring that he speaks with bandits to stop the frequent kidnappings and attacks, Hon. Barde disclosed that some parents of abducted children have been in touch with Sheik Gumi.

He also revealed that he is not in support of some comments made by Sheik Gumi as regards payment of ransom to bandits.

“The only problem I have with Sheik Gumi’s approach is when he said bandits should be given money, I take exception at that,” he said.
