Tiger Woods Receives Lifetime Achievement Exemption from PGA Tour Board

The PGA Tour Board has created a “lifetime achievement exemption category” for Tiger Woods, recognizing his exceptional career with over 80 wins. This new exemption, approved by the PGA Tour policy board, allows Woods to participate in all eight signature tournaments for the remainder of his career. These tournaments feature substantial prize money and limited fields.

Woods, now 48, boasts 15 majors among his 82 PGA Tour victories. Due to several injuries, he has played a limited schedule in recent years and has not automatically qualified for these events. This exemption ensures his continued presence in the tour’s top events.

Recent Performance and Schedule

Since returning to action at the 2022 Masters, Woods has competed in only nine official PGA Tour events over three seasons. Apart from major tournaments, he has only participated in the Genesis Invitational, which he hosts at Riviera Country Club near Los Angeles. This year, Woods withdrew from one event, finished last among those who made the cut at the Masters, and missed the cut at both the PGA Championship and the US Open.

In the recent US Open, Woods completed his two rounds seven over par, missing the cut by two shots. Seventy-four golfers made the cut at five over par.

Details of Signature Events

Signature Events are limited-field tournaments featuring top players and increased prize money. In 2024, three of the eight Signature Events will include a 36-hole cut, while the other five will not have a cut. The top 50 players from the previous season’s FedExCup points list through the Tour Championship are eligible to participate in all Signature Events this year.Ensuring Continued Legacy

This lifetime achievement exemption ensures that Tiger Woods, one of golf’s greatest legends, will continue to compete in the sport’s most prestigious events, maintaining his presence and influence on the PGA Tour.
