Oscar-nominated visionary Tim Burton and Oscar nominee Michael Keaton reunite for the highly anticipated sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, continuing the legacy of Burton’s iconic film.
In the first film, the ghost with the most turned life into chaos for the Deetz family — and for his big-screen return 36 years later, with the movie releasing in September, he has more mayhem to unleash. This time, three generations of Deetz women in Winter River will face another dance with the trickster demon. Schitt’s Creek’s Catherine O’Hara (Argylle) also returns as matriarch Delia.
Following an unexpected family tragedy, the Deetz family comes back to Winter River. Lydia’s life is disrupted when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers a mysterious model of the town in the attic, accidentally opening a portal to the Afterlife. With chaos looming in both realms, it’s only a matter of time before someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times, summoning the mischievous demon back to wreak havoc.
Filmmaker Tim Burton also returns to the director’s chair, marking his first feature since 2019’s Dumbo. Burton, known for revisiting his past works, previously directed two Batman movies and adapted his short Frankenweenie into a full-length film. He frequently collaborates with familiar talent, including his Wednesday star Jenna Ortega.
In Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Keaton, Ryder, O’Hara, and Ortega are joined by newcomers Justin Theroux (White House Plumbers), Monica Bellucci (Mafia Mamma), Arthur Conti (House of the Dragon), and Willem Dafoe (Poor Things).
Behind the lens, Burton works with a screenplay by Wednesday‘s Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, based on a story by Seth Grahame-Smith (The Lego Batman Movie).
