Nintendo Set to Reveal Switch 2 before April 2025

Nintendo assures fans that the successor to the Switch, referred to as Switch 2, will be unveiled before April 2025, aligning with rumors suggesting a launch in Q1 of that year. The announcement came alongside Nintendo’s end-of-year financial results, with President Shuntaro Furukawa confirming the timeframe for the introduction of the next-generation console. Furukawa emphasized that the unveiling will occur within the current fiscal year, ending on March 31st, 2025.

In discussing the Switch 2 announcement, Furukawa stated that it has been nearly nine years since the introduction of the Nintendo Switch in March 2015. While a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for June to discuss the software lineup for the latter half of 2024, Furukawa clarified that no information about the Switch successor will be disclosed during that presentation.

Despite the anticipation surrounding the Switch 2, Nintendo’s forecast anticipates a decline in Switch console sales for the upcoming year. The company projects to sell 13.5 million units, down from the 15.7 million sold in the previous fiscal year. Additionally, net profit is expected to decrease by 39 percent, with a projected 19 percent decline in revenue.

While Switch console sales have declined since their peak in 2021, the OLED model experienced a slight increase in sales. Despite this, the platform maintains a healthy user base, with Nintendo reporting the highest number of annual players since the launch of the Nintendo Switch.

Despite preparations for the Switch 2, Nintendo remains committed to the current generation of Switch consoles. The company aims to increase adoption by households, with a goal of having multiple systems in each home or even one for every individual.
