Red Bull Salzburg has announced the appointment of Pep Lijnders as their latest manager, marking a significant move for the Austrian side. The news was confirmed via Salzburg’s official website on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, with reports indicating Lijnders has inked a three-year contract, binding him to the club until the summer of 2027.
Departing alongside former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp at the end of the 2023/24 season, Dutchman Pep Lijnders brings a wealth of experience from his tenure at Liverpool. Joining the Reds in 2014, Lijnders ascended through the ranks to serve as first-team development coach in 2015, eventually taking on the role of assistant manager under Brendan Rodgers, a position he retained upon Klopp’s arrival in October 2015.
Expressing his enthusiasm for his new role at Salzburg, Lijnders shared his aspirations to lead the team to success and instill an attacking mindset. He remarked, “I am very proud to become the new head coach of FC Red Bull Salzburg. This is a real privilege for me. After PSV Eindhoven, FC Porto, and Liverpool FC, I am now moving to another exceptional club with a really good structure and a particular focus on youth development.”
Lijnders emphasized his commitment to fostering a winning mentality within the team, one centered on passion and hunger for success. Alongside his assistant coach Vitor Matos and the support team, he aims to contribute to the club’s ongoing growth in the dynamic world of football. Noting the allure of Salzburg and its warm reception, Lijnders affirmed his readiness for this exciting chapter in his career.
