The probe into shady dealings at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation escalated on Wednesday, with Economic and Financial Crimes Commission investigators questioning numerous top civil officers involved in the scandals.
This came as it was reported that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission had recovered N50 billion from the humanitarian affairs ministry. The money that was intended to be embezzled was seized by the ICPC between July and August 2023 and deposited in the Central Bank of Nigeria.
it was learned that the amount, which was intended for vulnerable residents under the reign of former Minister Sadiya Umar-Farouq, was halted during attempts to transfer it into private bank accounts and was seized by the ICPC under its former Chairman, Bolaji Owasanoye. According to an authoritative government source, the N50 billion was subsequently handed over to the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu.
