Accusations of Sexual Misconduct Against The Voice Judge Jason DeruloUS singer Emaza Gibson, who goes by the stage name Emaza Dilan, filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Thursday, accusing Jason Derulo, a judge on the singing competition show Voice broadcasted by Seven, of requesting sexual favors in exchange for assistance with her career. These allegations date back to incidents that occurred in 2021 and 2022 and include claims of aggressive behavior, harassment, and unwanted sexual advances.
Derulo, who recently joined The Voice as a judge, is currently mentoring one of the four contestants in the upcoming grand finale.
Gibson, aged 25, initially formed the musical group Ceraadi with her sisters in 2015, gaining significant popularity with over 1.25 million subscribers on their YouTube channel. Later, Gibson embarked on a solo career.
In August 2021, Derulo approached Gibson with a proposal for a collaboration between his music imprint, Future History, and Atlantic Records. This deal required Gibson to create a mixtape within four months and an album within six. The agreement also included producing a single featuring Derulo.
Gibson alleges that during the recording process, Derulo suggested that her success in the music industry would necessitate participation in questionable activities, making references to “goat skin and fish scales,” which Gibson interpreted as sexual rituals involving goat sacrifices, goat blood, and cocaine use, as outlined in the lawsuit.
Gibson’s legal representation asserts that Derulo’s demands amounted to soliciting sexual acts from their client as a condition for his mentorship and musical collaboration. Gibson claims that she rejected Derulo’s advances and was subsequently dropped from Atlantic and Future History on September 6, 2022, according to the lawsuit.
