Multi-Grammy award winner Drake recently purchased the late Tupac Shakur’s self-designed diamond, ruby, and gold crown ring at Sotheby’s Hip-Hop auction for a staggering fee of one million dollars
The winning bid was well above Sotheby’s pre-sale estimate of between two hundred thousand dollars and three hundred thousand dollars making it become the most valuable hip-hop artifact ever sold at auction and the only Hip Hop artifact to surpass one million dollars, the auction house said.
Drake revealed that he bought the ring previously owned by the late rap icon in an Instagram Story that he shared recently.
Drake uploaded a photo in which he was seen showing off the sparkler as he promoted fellow rapper Travis Scott’s new album, Utopia.
Just so you know, the ring was worn by Tupac during his last public appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 1996.
Tupac’s godmother, Yaasmyn Fula, while providing the ring to the auction house, stated that the ring, which bears the Pac & Dada 1996 inscription on its side, was designed for him in New York City after his release from jail and his signing with Death Row Records.
He however modeled the design on the crowns of the medieval kings of Europe, Sotheby’s said.
