On Tuesday night, the annual Golden Globe Awards held for the 80th time in history at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in New York City’s Rainbow Room, though this year’s ceremony was notable for a bigger reason, as it was also hosted by American comedian/actor, Jerrod Carmichael.
The Golden Globes made their post-scandal comeback after spending a year off the air, as the award show has been trying to recover from a racial exclusion scandal after a 2021 Los Angeles Times story revealed that none of the eighty-seven Hollywood Foreign Press members was Black.
The Fabelmans and The Banshees of Inisherin took home the top honors on the film side, while Abbott Elementary, House of the Dragon and The White Lotus were among the big TV winners.
The Banshees of Inisherin won Best musical or comedy film, Best Screenplay by Martin McDonagh, and Best actor in a musical or comedy film by Colin Farrell.
Abbot Elementary won, Best musical or comedy TV Series, Best supporting actor in a TV series by Tyler James Williams, and Best actress in a musical or comedy TV series by Quinta Brunson.
Everything Everywhere all at once won two awards, Best supporting actor by Ke Huy Quan and Best Actress in a musical or comedy film by Michelle Yeoh.
Other winners of the night include House of the Dragon which won Best Drama TV Series, Angela Bassett winning in the Best supporting actress for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio winning in the Best Animated film, Zendaya winning in the Best actress in a Drama TV Series for Euphoria and Austin Butler winning in the Best drama actor category for Elvis, amongst other.
