Ahead of his upcoming film, American actor Will Smith has spoken up about how the backlash from the Oscars incident with Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards may affect his new project.
Will Smith made this known while speaking with Entertainment Weekly saying, “The only discomfort my heart has around that is that so many people have done spectacular work on this film.
My hope is that my team isn’t penalized at all for my actions…Everyone has done such spectacular work.”
He added that while he’s concerned about the matter, he’s going to ensure that everyone gets seen in the light that they deserve.
The film has also sparked criticism that’s why American entertainment reporter, Jake Hamilton asked Will Smith about some people’s feelings that they would struggle to watch the new film so soon after the Oscar incident.
The actor replied saying, “I feel like that’s the type of thing that you would say before you sit in the movie theatre.”
“I think the work that [director Antoine Fuqua] has done, and all of the artists involved with this film, I would hope that the importance of the story and the importance of Peter rise above those feelings and emotions.”
Will Smith stars as Peter in the upcoming flick titled Emancipation, which follows the journey of an enslaved man who escapes from a Louisiana plantation and joins the Union Army during the Civil War.
The film is set to premiere in theatres this Friday, and Apple TV+ will begin streaming it on December 9.
