Amidst the silent crisis going on in the Nigerian Oscar Selection Committee (NOSC), The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has given the organizing body another opportunity to reconvene for a revote for the films eligible for the 2023 Oscar consideration.
Filmmaker Kunle Afolayan who had been vocal about the situation shared the news via his social media pages.
Taking to Twitter, Kunle Afolayan wrote, “It’s just been confirmed that The academy “OSCARS” has given the Nigerian Oscars selection committee a week extension to revote and re-present a film to represent Nigeria by October 21st latest.
God’s hand is in this one I believe! Anikulapo on my mind.”
If you would recall, in a statement released by NOSC, the committee voted for three Nollywood films, EbonyLife studios’ Elesin Oba, Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo and Femi Adebayo produced King of Thieves.
While eight members of the committee voted for ‘nil submission’, five reportedly voted for Elesin Oba with the remaining films splitting the votes one, one.
