Back in the day, some of us were diehard fans of cartoons, and those who are still children at heart can’t still get over watching them even now.
It’s true we grew up on cartoons, and the lessons found therein, but cartoons have changed over the past years, though there are still cartoons that present certain lessons to take away, nothing compared to the cartoons of our youth in the 1980s and 90s.
We have several great Saturday morning cartoons to choose from, believe me, these cartoons were so funny and entertaining after all. So, if you want to be hit by nostalgia and relive those golden days when we used to sit back, munch on snacks, and enjoy the best cartoons, then let us take you on an emotional roller-coaster ride, as we take a look at 5 CLASSIC CARTOONS.
- VOLTRON
This series focuses on five lion robots and their pilots as they fight the evil forces of King Zarkon and Prince Lotor. During its initial run, it was the top-rated syndicated children’s show on television.
Voltron Defender of the universe was separated into five parts by the evil witch, Hagger. Each part is powered by an element of the planet Arus but was lost and dormant until they were found by five space explorers.
- SCOOBY DOO
Scooby-Doo! Where Are You! was the one that had the gang solving crimes in the Mystery Machine.
This was the show where they changed the world by tackling the tough cases that no one else could crack. Their van would break down, and it’s crazy that wherever that happens, always seems to have a ghost problem.
Then Fred would have the brilliant idea of splitting up the gang to look for clues, in which he always sent the two pothead cowards, Shaggy and Scooby, off together.
- THE SIMPSONS
Before it earned classic status in the 90s, The Simpsons started life in the 1980s, making it the most successful, longest-running cartoon series on our list by a long way.
The old-school 80’s renderings of everyone’s favourite yellow family looked very different to the classic versions of the characters we know and love today. Upon its release though, The Simpsons was one of the first cartoons to appeal to adult audiences, not just children.
The cartoon character is comprised of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The Simpsons family both as a whole and with its individual members tend to get themselves in quite a bit of trouble in their hometown of Springfield, which all plays out throughout the show.
- PINKY AND THE BRAIN
This cartoon series told the story of a super-genius mouse with plans to take over the world, and his mindless assistant, Pinky. The Brain’s elaborate schemes would never work out, but it didn’t stop him from trying again and again.
The best comedic moments in the series belonged to Pinky, the master of the non sequitur. How can we forget his unique responses to the Brain’s weekly question, what are we going to do tonight?
The same thing we do every night, Pinky: Try to take over the world.
- TOM AND JERRY
This cartoon series centres on a friendship/rivalry (a love-hate relationship) between the title characters Tom a cat, and Jerry a mouse, who quite simply can’t get along.
This cat-and-mouse tale was epic in itself, as it never let us down not even now. This long-lived cat-and-mouse team (or anti-team, as the case might be) began life courtesy of William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for MGM in a series of theatrical shorts back in 1940.
Tom and Jerry remain a classic one till now, no CAP!!!
