Just a few days after the EFCC made a post that they had arrested 95 suspected internet fraudsters in Delta State, scores of youths including young ladies on Tuesday protested against the arrest and detention.
According to reports, the suspects were apprehended on Thursday, September 29, 2022, in the Warri neighbourhoods of Adesa Ughonton and Jedda for allegedly engaging in fraudulent online operations.
The operation was carried out by agents of the anti-graft agency’s Port Harcourt Zonal Command.
The agency said it seized different brands of exotic vehicles, mobile phones and laptops.
The bank accounts of those arrested were allegedly emptied by operatives of the commission, as alleged by sources.
However, during the protest, the ladies who claim to be dating internet fraudsters aka Yahoo Boys, asked EFCC to leave them alone.
They stated that the money yahoo boys make from scams is what they depend on for their daily survival.
One of the protesting ladies asked that her boyfriend be freed so that he can celebrate her birthday and her child’s dedication.
The protesters alleged that officials of the agency had virtually turned themselves into vendetta mafia.
The protest which was tagged ‘#EndEFCC’ started around 11:00 am, disrupting vehicular movements.
Responding to the issue, the spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Bright Edafe, said he did not have details of the incident yet.
“At this moment, I don’t have any detail concerning the protest. I only saw the pictures on social media, but as soon as I get details, I shall reach back to you,” he said.
