An unknown man was seen on camera shouting at the reception of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Oyo State, demanding reimbursement for the money he spent during his studentship
The man said he needed a return of his tuition because he had been struggling ever since he left school and the credential had not brought him any financial benefit.
“Give me my money, I am suffering,” the man lamented repeatedly in a video posted by Linda Ikeji media.
He presented his certificates to the staff in the school and asked them to refund all the fees he paid.
The video has stirred mixed reactions on social media as some people questioned if he can also refund the knowledge he got from attending the school.
While some feel he was wrong to ask for a refund as he also won’t be refunding the knowledge gotten others blast the government for unemployment.
Recall that at the beginning of the year, a report was released forecasting the unemployment rate in Nigeria for 2022. The report estimated the unemployment rate in the year at nearly 33%, a 0.5 increase from the previous year at 32.5%.
Nigeria’s working-age population has experienced a sharp increase in unemployment since 2014, which has resulted in a significant outflow of skilled employees and migrants during the past few years.
Also, according to the NBS, about half of Nigeria’s 76,562 doctoral degree holders in the labour force were either unemployed or underemployed in 2020, according to the country’s unemployment report.
According to this data, a degree up to a doctorate level does not ensure employment in Nigeria.
